ABOUT US
We Build Communities
OUR MISSION
The mission of North Carolina Housing Foundation (NCHF) is to develop safe, affordable housing with services for low- and moderate-income persons in North Carolina. As a nonprofit organization, we have stayed true to this mission.
EXPERIENCE
Founded in 1968, NCHF has created more than 2,500 units of quality housing for seniors, disabled, and low-income families across the states of North and South Carolina. Our main office is in Winston-Salem, and roughly half of our work has taken place in Forsyth and surrounding counties, though we have frequently reached beyond this area to assist other developers in their efforts.
PARTNERSHIPS
Since its formation, NCHF has partnered with municipalities, churches, other nonprofit organizations, and private builders to develop housing that leverages corporate donations and federal tax credits.
OUR FOCUS
In the early days of the organization — responding to the inadequate amount of safe, quality housing in Winston-Salem — NCHF developed single-family homes and provided downpayment assistance. One of the founding tenets of the organization was to more comprehensively integrate the community, but due to historic redlining, properties in the more affluent (predominantly White) parts of town were too expensive to build single-family homes. So NCHF began building multi-family homes. Today the organization focuses on building, serving, and managing thriving, multi-unit communities.
NORTH CAROLINA HOUSING SERVICES & MANAGEMENT CORPORATION
Purposeful Growth
SERVICES
The North Carolina Housing Services & Management Corporation was formed in 1998 to provide a comprehensive training and technical support program for multi-family properties serving low- to moderate-income seniors and families. Trained Service Coordinators link residents to available community services that strengthen their housing stability and improve quality of life. These services often allow seniors to age in place.
MANAGEMENT
In 2002, the scope of NCHSM was expanded to add property management for properties serving families, seniors, and persons with disabilities. The addition of these services — provided by an experienced staff — positioned NCHSM as a uniquely qualified leader in the property management industry. Our staff work together as a team for the benefit of residents, owners/sponsors, and the physical and financial wellbeing of each property.
NONPROFIT
Both NCHSM and NCHF are nonprofit entities that exist to serve the greater good of our community.
